The holidays are perfect for sharing, so I am passing on what I have found that promises to be great!

The headline of the SATURDAY section in the Saturday, November 15th, 2014 edition of the Los Angeles Times reads:  "Six Degrees of Preparation".  That headline ties to the main article "6 Vegetables 6 Ways"--russ.parsons@latimes.com/noelle.carter@latimes.com  The article explores 6 ways that green beans, sweet potatoes, winter squash, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and beets can be prepared. That's 36 recipes. For full recipes go to the California Cookbook, recipes.latimes.com.

Other articles of interest include:
  • Chowder Goes Whole Clam--Fin's Clam Chowder  This recipe from chef Woody Scanlon of Fin's Coast Cuisine in Port Townend, Wash. takes about 45 minutes to prepare about 3 quarts of  soup that serves 10 to 15 persons.  A Culinary SOS may be requested at:  noelle.carter@latimes.com or Culinary SOS, Food, Los Angeles, CA 90012. BLACK FRIDAY HAZARDS

SHOPPERS!! SHOP ONLINE IN COMFORT AND SAFETY.

While the holidays bring out the best many of us please let us keep that bright seasonal spirit alive throughout the season . . .and throughout the years. There are those who exhibit "insanisms" so beware.
When you do shop at the stores please be mindful:
  • of our surroundings
  • not leave purses in shopping baskets
  • in crowds be careful of seniors who don't move as fast as you
  • wet spots on floors
  • where we park - is it a lighted area, close to the store, are people lurking about?
  • shop with a friend
  • separate your money or use credit/debit cards
  • shop online
  • be aware of other when putting items in your car
  • if you need help with getting items into your car ask for assistance from the store representative, even if it's just to escort you to your car
  • if you feel unsafe at any point check with the manager of the store
  • if you feel unsafe on the street or are being followed drive to the local police station, hospital emergency, or a well lighted area with lots of people

You May Want to Shop Online...and Not at the Mall

The Mall is exciting. The bright and colorful window displays; the smells of fresh food and delectible desserts; the unique shops; the people you might run into; and the movies.  If you just want to hang out for an hour or two or three, I guess that's ok. However if you want to shop for an item and find the lowest price--you may want to shop online.  If you don't want to fight the traffic and find a parking spot that's close--you may want to shop online.  If you want to avoid the salesperson that's not familiar with the items you want or one that may be rude--you may want to shop online.

Shopping online you can:

  • shop for the exact brand
  • size
  • color
  • price
  • compare with other brands
  • get good reviews from actual customers who have purchased the item, and find out what they liked and what they didn't
  • save a lot of time
  • save on gas
  • save on your nerves
  • and depending on your purchase get free shipping
Just a little something to think about and while you are thinking click the link below to find out more about The Booster, what it is about and how you can support L. A. Shabach Foursquare Church and it's 36th Year celebration.
